Principles and Values (Adults)
The first course within the All Wales Induction Framework is a compilation of the principles and values any person who works with clients in the health and social care sector must have in order to provide effective care for adults in Wales. This course outlines appropriate Welsh legislation and the importance of welsh culture in a person-centred care setting, focussing on the “more than words” framework encouraging the usage of the welsh language in care settings. It touches on the impact of positive relationships and approaches to reduce the usage of restrictive practices.

Health and Well-Being (Adults)
The Health and Well-Being section of the Wales Induction focusses on what exactly well-being means and the factors that may have an effect on the health and well-being of an adult. It also encompasses what would any support worker may need to know regarding personal and physical care of an adult, from oral health to palliative care. Procedure and policies surrounding the administration of medication and nutrition is included within this course alongside what technology may be able to assist the adult being cared for. How to effectively support those with sensory loss, dementia, mental ill-health and substance misuse.
Health and Well-Being (Young Adults and Children)
The Health and Well-Being section of the Wales Induction focusses on what exactly well-being means and the factors that may have an effect on the health and well-being of a young adult or child. As play is a large part of a child’s development and well-being, this course goes into detail around the function that the various types of play hold. The importance of medication, hydration and nutrition for a child’s development and well-being is outlined. Communication strategies and how to support those with additional support needs and the relevant legislation as well as referral and signposting procedures under Welsh legislation are included.
Professional Practice as a Health and Social Care Worker
This course outlines the roles and responsibilities of any support worker within the health and social care sector, and the importance of following the policies and procedures to follow the agreed ways of working in regards to handling information and personal conduct. As there are many instances where you would need to working in partnership with other people and organisations, the significance and how best to work in a team of any size.
Safeguarding Individuals
Our Welsh Induction Safeguarding course outlines the principles of safeguarding in wales and the various legislation associated. It goes into detail of the various warning signs which accompany harm, abuse or neglect, and what you are able to do should you expect any harm is coming to someone who is supported in your service. It touches on current issues such as FGM, modern slavery and forced marriages which may lead to “honour based violence”. How to report and record any safeguarding issues you may have discovered is summarised to assist you in your role.
Health and Safety
This course goes through the principles of health and safety in line with Welsh legislation including the importance of risk assessments, RIDDOR and basic first aid. Issues such as manual handling, and good technique for lifting and lowering loads are addressed along with personal safety in the workplace and managing stress. Fire safety including types of fire extinguishers, their uses and what can cause a fire in the workplace. In health and social care, infection control and prevention is focussed on alongside food safety and hygiene, and Control of Substances Hazardous to Health.
Course Structure and Functionality
This course has been designed in a non-linear and modular fashion which means you may complete the units in any order you wish.
You progress will be tracked so don’t worry if you have to dip in and out. There will be a knowledge check at the end which will become available once you have completed all of the prescribed units.
The course also contains the following content functionality to help the learner become immersed and to reinforce their learning:

- An assorted array of “custom pages” i.e. scene exploration and “gamified” scenarios.

This online suite of courses is from a Skills for Care Centre of Excellence for e-Learning. Skills for Care is the employer-led strategic body for workforce development in social care for adults in England. Their Centre of Excellence award is for ‘exemplary practice going above and beyond, constantly evolving to meet the needs of adult social care and being innovative in the delivery to ensure the needs of the learners are met’.

Course assessment and certification
The candidate must pass the final assessment to receive a certificate. However, if failed the course content can be revisited and the final assessment re-attempted until the expiry of the licence.
