This online course is ideal as part of an induction package for new employees, and also as a foundation for employees who will go on to attend specialised, in-depth courses relevant to their role, for example, Display Screen Equipment Training or Working at Height Training. IOSH Working Safely ensures employees understand their responsibilities for health and safety in the workplace, and that they know how to identify hazards and manage risks to protect themselves, their colleagues, and your organisation.

Module 1 – Introducing managing safely
– Human, legal, and financial reasons for promoting a safe working environment.
– The manager’s role and accountability for health and safety.
Module 2 – Assessing risks
– What constitutes a risk assessment and how to conduct an effective risk assessment.
– How to identify potential hazards, evaluate risks, and implement measures to control or mitigate risks.
Module 3 – Controlling risks
– Methods for assessing and managing risks. How to apply the hierarchy of risk control to eliminate or minimise risks.
– Looking at different control measures and strategies to reduce a range of workplace risks.
Module 4 – Understanding responsibilities
– Legal obligations and responsibilities related to health and safety management.
– The regulatory framework governing workplace safety and the key components of an effective health and safety management system.
Module 5 – Understanding hazards
– Types of hazards that can be present in a workplace, including physical, chemical, biological, ergonomic, or psychosocial factors.
– Methods for identifying, assessing, and managing hazards to prevent accidents and injuries.
Module 6 – Investigating incidents
– The importance of promptly reporting and investigating workplace incidents. How to report and investigate accidents.
– This module covers identification of the root causes of incidents and corrective actions that can be implemented to prevent recurrence.
Module 7 – Measuring performance
– How to evaluate and monitor the health and safety performance of an organisation to ensure safety standards are maintained.
– What key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure.

Course assessment and certification
Successful completion of this course requires a 70% pass mark. A completion certificate will be available to download and the official IOSH will be sent via post.
