Description
Course Details
As you work through this online course at your own pace, you will produce a publication level paper of 3,000 – 5,000 words that is ready for submission to an academic journal.
Students can start this course at any time throughout the year.
During this course you will learn:
- the structure needed to produce a paper
- the type of content required by academic journals
- how to find the content for your paper
- the appropriate research methodology
- the different referencing systems required
Students are encouraged to produce work systematically, and feedback and guidance is given on all drafts in terms of the structure and content that has been written. Students will produce a paper that is approximately 3,000 – 5,000 words in length by the end of the course.
The paper is then proofread and copy edited to publication level by us so that it is ready to be submitted to an academic journal.
Additional Services / Charges
We are happy to submit your paper to an academic journal on your behalf for an additional fee of £40. This fee includes researching appropriate journals for your paper, and any additional submissions required should your paper initially not be accepted.
There are 4 stages in the process – submitting a paper, acceptance by the journal, peer review by other academics, and then publication. Depending on the journal, the process can take 10-12 weeks from submission to publication. Once the journal is ready to publish your paper, there will be a journal publication fee of approximately £100 depending on the journal.
Previous Submissions
As part of the pilot programme for this course, 4 students were successfully published in academic journals, with topics ranging from psychology to civil engineering. One of the students had two papers published and has now been promoted to Department Head at a new college.
Student Support
Students have a dedicated tutor as they work through the course, providing advice and guidance, as well as prompt feedback. Communication is usually via email, and telephone / Skype support is also available if required. This allows each student to work through the course at their own pace.
