Yes, if employees are required to lift objects which could cause harm. It is difficult to know whether a particular person could harm themselves by lifting an object, as many factors can determine the risk for an individual. Providing staff with an awareness of how to lift objects safely and, if possible avoiding lifting all together can help avoid musculoskeletal damage.

The employer is required to provide all new employees with training on how to work safely which should include first aid, and fire safety and evacuation ensuring that they know how to work safely and without risks to health. This will include all aspects of the organisations health and safety policy and training on any specific aspects of their job role where their safety or the safety of others may be at risk.
