Description
Being Fire Aware is knowing there are multiple fire risks in hospitality making fire safety a significant priority. Employers have a legal duty of care to their staff and must ensure they are fully aware of the risks and how to work safely. Neglecting this duty can have serious consequences for both guests and businesses, as witnessed by the number of fires in hotels that occur each year, and underscoring the necessity of comprehensive fire training.
Fire training is a legal requirement for companies to provide and for staff to undertake when starting employment and on an ongoing basis. Due to the high risk nature of hospitality most companies will identify in their risk assessment, to have 6 monthly refreshers for all staff and in addition, due to increased hazards during night time operations, companies will also schedule quarterly refreshers for night staff.
This online course considers a range of fire procedures that could be used across different hospitality businesses such as hotels, conference and event venues including applying the fire triangle to working safely, key causes of fires in hospitality and actions, what to do if clothes catch light and getting out of a smoke filled room along with using manual call points, possible differences in alarm sounds and the actions to take. All of these are vital to being fire aware. Reassuring guests and assisting guests with disabilities is explored along with roll call procedures, the role of the fire warden and the importance of department instructions.
