Helen German

Prior to joining the eLearning Marketplace team, Helen taught in Further Education (FE) for nearly 20 years, delivering government-funded English qualifications across all levels, from Entry Level Functional Skills to GCSE and A Level English. Her roles throughout her FE career included curriculum leadership and management, mentoring new teaching staff as they qualified, and the additional responsibilities of designated First Aider and Fire Warden across campuses. Helen is also a qualified English examiner and continues to privately tutor online and face-to-face.
Helen is passionate about lifelong learning and self-development, designing an enriching tutorial programme for 16–18-year-olds that focused on their skills for the world of work. Her most rewarding time in her teaching career was delivering the GCSE English qualification to mature students; a diverse group of learners with an average age group of 16-55, some looking to gain their GCSE for a change of career while others sought to achieve what they didn’t at school. She founded a creative writing society with her students, encouraging their efforts in writing short stories, articles and poetry. Helen’s teaching background includes the following subjects: Communication Key Skills, Functional Skills English (E1-L2), GCSE English Language, GCSE English Literature, A Level Sociology, A Level English Language, and A Level English Literature.
Helen is also a published blog writer, raising awareness of Type 1 diabetes and pregnancy with her regular contributions in 2015 to Diabetes UK. She has also been a Champion for Alzheimer’s Research UK, speaking at training events about her experience of caring for a loved one with dementia as well as her fundraising challenges, including an astonishing cycle of 90km a day for 90 days!
A student-nominated, award-winning teacher, Helen left education in 2024 to pursue new challenges in the e-learning industry, learn new business skills, and to discover how learning continues beyond the classroom.
