St John’s Ambulance found 9 out of 10 adults in the UK lack confidence in First Aid because they haven’t received appropriate training.

  • Would your or your staff be confident in an emergency?
  • A customer unconscious, would you know what to do?

As an employer you are obligated to provide an ‘appropriate’ response if a requirement for first aid occurs. Around 140,000 people die each year in the UK from accients where first aid could have saved their lives (St John’s Ambulance, 2016)

This CPD Accredited online course provides the knowledge staff need to respond approriately to a wide range of common workplace emergencies.

First-aid training depends on the level of hazards in a workplace setting.

Lower hazard levels only require minimum first aid training. Settings may include offices, shops etc. This may mean the appointment of a person to be in charge of first-aid but they don’t need to be a first-aider.

High levels of hazards require a fully qualified appointed first-aider.  Settings may include warehousing, manufacturing, food processing etc. There are four levels of first-aid training:

Appointed Person (AP): Delivered via online or face to face training.

Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW): 1 day face to face training or blended learning whereby knowledge is delivered online and practical elements are delivered face to face.

First Aid at Work (FAW):  3 days face to face training or blended learning whereby knowledge is delivered online and practical elements are delivered face to face.

Additional training: Specialist training for specific work environments e.g., chemical factories.

First-aid training does not need to be accredited according to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), but FAW/EFAW training should be in line with HSE’s first aid syllabus.

Whether online or face to face an employer can choose a training provider of their own choice.

Yes, many employers provide online first aid training to some or all of their staff.

Yes, online training can be used to deliver first aid awareness knowledge.  If/when there is a need for a practical element of first-aid e.g. EFAW and FAW a blended approach can be used.  This is where the knowledge could be delivered online and the practical elements are completed with face-to-face training.
