Course Overview

An Asbestos Awareness Course is mandatory for all workers who are liable to be exposed to asbestos while at work.  This online asbestos course is IATP accredited and provides clear and compliant instruction.

The reason Control Of Asbestos Regulations 2012 (CAR12) require employers to provide this training is that Asbestos can be extremely hazardous if disturbed because fibres released into the air can be fatal if inhaled.  In the UK 2018/2019 there were 12,000 lung disease deaths related to past exposure at work.

Asbestos was commonly used in flooring, insulation and roofing until the late 1990s so many professionals are still likely to be exposed to asbestos while at work.

This IATP & CPD accredited course meets the Category A training requirements of CAR12.  Using motion-graphic text, key lessons are communicated in an engaging, clear and concise way.

There are three levels of asbestos training;

Category A – Asbestos Awareness

Asbestos courses are for those who are liable to be exposed to asbestos in the course of their work.  These staff are required to avoid any work that may disturb asbestos containing materials (ACMs).  This training provides an understanding of the dangers and what to do if they suspect asbestos is present.

Category B – Non-licensable work with asbestos

Asbestos courses are for those who knowingly disturb asbestos.  This is also referred to as non-licensable asbestos work or minor works. Staff requiring this type of training is everyone who knowingly disturb ACMs for example, carpenters, electricians and demolition workers.  This training provides an understanding of what work can be done and how it can be done safely.

Category C – Licensable work with asbestos

Asbestos courses are for those who remove asbestos.  This is also referred to a licensable asbestos work.

The Health & Safety Executive (HSE) recognise online learning as a viable delivery method for asbestos awareness training providing the training meets the requirements of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 (CAR12).  This Asbestos Awareness course online meets CAR 12 requirements for CAT A training.

Yes, all employers must ensure that those who need to avoid disturbing asbestos, and supervisors who manage those that need to avoid disturbing asbestos, are given asbestos awareness training.

Employers are required to provide a higher level of training in addition to asbestos awareness training for those who disturb asbestos. The level of training will depend on the work involved. This training is not offered as online learning.
